Visit Hadramawt Region

Al Mukallā

Hadramawt is a stunningly beautiful region located in the south-eastern corner of Yemen, bordering the Gulf of Aden. It is one of Yemen's most diverse regions, boasting spectacular mountain scenery and lush greenery. The region is known for its rich culture and history, with archaeological sites and fossils from prehistory to the present day.

One popular tourist site to visit in Hadramawt is Shibam Kawkaban - an ancient mud-brick city that dates back to 500 BCE. The city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unique architecture which includes more than 500 multi-story buildings constructed with mud bricks. Other attractions include the Great Mosque in Tarim and the Sunni Islamic university Dar al-Mustafa - both renowned for their intricate art and architecture.

An interesting historical fact about Hadramawt is that it has often been referred to as "the Land of Sheba" - an allusion to Queen Sheba who ruled over the region during biblical times according to some accounts. This connection can be seen in many aspects throughout Hadramawt today including its culture, language, and art forms which have been deeply influenced by her legacy over time.
