Discover Canillo

 
Canillo is a small town in the principality of Andorra, nestled in the Pyrenees Mountains. It has a population of approximately 4,000 people and encompasses an area of 11.39 square miles. The principal economic activity is tourism and its historic center is home to several popular churches, chapels and monuments dating back to medieval times.

The ski resort of Grandvalira is located just minutes from Canillo, making it an ideal destination for skiers and snowboarders in the winter months. Visitors can also enjoy stunning scenery from scenic hiking trails that traverse both Grandvalira and nearby mountains such as Encampadana Peak, as well as quaint cafes offering traditional Andorran cuisine.

Other attractions include Canillo's Caves of Fontaneda which contain some examples of prehistoric paintings dating back 5500 BC; Pic del Pla de l'Estany at 10,554 feet ASL affording breathtaking views over the region; the iconic Sant Joan de Caselles Church built in 16th century sitting atop Parc del Sol hillside; plus numerous other churches including Santa Coloma d'Andorra built during the 15th century with its beautiful stained-glass windows depicting scenes from local history.
