Francistown is the second largest city in Botswana and lies on the Tati River, near the northern border of South Africa. It is a bustling centre for trade and commerce, with a population of about 100,000 people. Francistown has been an important trading post since British settlers first established it in 1897. Today it boasts many modern amenities such as well-developed infrastructure, great shopping opportunities and some cultural attractions.

For tourists there are plenty of places to visit including The Kalahari Gold Cup Race course, the largest horse racing facility in Botswana; Thapong Visual Arts Centre showcasing local art; Ntelemogolo Hill Monument commemorating fallen heroes; and Chinaka Cultural village which offers insights into traditional ways of life.

An interesting historical fact is that Francistown was also once home to one of Africa's oldest gold mines, Tati Mine - one of the most profitable gold mines in its time - which closed down in 1975 after over 80 years of operation.
