St. Vitus Cathedral is located in the historic Prague Castle grounds of the Czech Republic. The cathedral was founded in 1344 and its Gothic architecture has been a symbol of the city since then. The interior reflects a unique combination of Baroque, Gothic, Renaissance and art nouveau styles with stunning stained glass windows and mosaics. Visitors can explore its high arches, soaring spires and overall grandeur making it one of the most beautiful religious buildings in Europe. A must see while visiting is its 14th century stained-glass windows depicting stories from bible that surround the entire structure as well as statues dedicated to various saints along its walls such as St Wenceslas or St Adalbert carved by renowned sculptors at that time.

Plan your visit

Planning ahead for a visit to St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague can make your experience more enjoyable. Book tickets and tours online in advance as ticket lines tend to be long during peak tourist season. Visit the cathedral early in the morning or later evening when it is less crowded and you get to take in all its beauty with fewer distractions. Take a guided tour so you don’t miss any important points of interest around the building like its stained glass windows, tombs, sculptures, etc. Also consider packing light as there is restricted access for bulky items inside St. Vitus Cathedral due to security reasons.
