The Faiyum Governorate of Egypt is one of the most ancient and historically rich cities in the country. It is located in Middle Egypt, some 90 km southwest of Cairo. The city has a rich agricultural history as it borders largest oasis in the country, Lake Qarun. A popular tourist spot is Hawara Pyramid which was built by King Amenemhat III out of mud bricks around 1855 BC. Another significant site is Wadi El-Rayan, a protected nature reserve that features two lakes surrounded by sand dunes and hot springs.

For visitors looking for a unique experience, Faiyum Governorate offers many outdoor activities such as swimming, boat rides on Lake Qarun, wildlife viewing and desert safaris through nearby deserts like Sahara or Darb el Arbain (the forty days). In addition to its natural beauty and attractions, Faiyum also has many important archaeological sites like Karanis Greco-Roman City which was once an important center for trade and commerce during Roman times. Faiyum Governorate also provides great insight into Ancient Egyptian culture with its temples dedicated to gods Ra, Sobek and Horus at Kom Aushim.
