Hesse is a state located in the west-central part of Germany. It is bordered by North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria, Baden-Wurttemberg and Rhineland Palatinate. The capital city of Hesse is Wiesbaden.

Hesse has a wealth of cultural attractions to discover such as the beautiful Gothic Cathedral in Mainz and the impressive archaeological collections at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg. For those who are looking for an outdoor adventure there are plenty of hiking trails and nature parks to explore including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Limes Germanicus.

One interesting historical fact about Hesse is that it was one of only three states that formed West Germany after WWII when it was established as a federal state in 1949. Today modern Hesse remains an important economic center with Frankfurt being home to both the European Central Bank and many international businesses and banks.
