Visit Gunma Prefecture

Gunma Prefecture is located in the Kanto region of Japan, bordering seven prefectures and nestled between the great cities of Tokyo and Nagano. Gunma is known for its fertile land and abundance of hot springs, making it an ideal destination for tourists looking to get away from urban life.

One popular attraction in Gunma is the Kusatsu Onsen hot spring village which has been a favorite spot among travelers since the Edo period. Outside the village, visitors can explore Tsumagoi Ski Resort or take a drive along one of Japan's most scenic routes - The Joshin-etsu Expressway.

The prefecture also boasts a rich historical background as well. In 1614, during the Battle of Sekigahara, Sanada Yukimura led his forces at Ueda Castle against Tokugawa Ieyasu's army. Today, visitors can still explore Ueda Castle's ruins to gain insight on feudal Japan life during this tumultuous time period.
