Oita Prefecture is a beautiful coastal area located in the southernmost part of Japan, on the island of Kyushu. It is surrounded by lush nature and breathtaking mountain ranges, making it a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking and hot springs.

Oita Prefecture is home to many noteworthy tourist destinations, including Beppu City which is known for its abundance of hot spring baths, and Usa Shrine which dates back to 725 BC. The city of Yufuin also offers picturesque scenery with its pristine lakes and rich flora-and-fauna reserves.

An interesting fact about Oita Prefecture is that it's the birthplace of Japanese Buddhism - Kukai founded Koyasan Shingon Buddhism more than 1200 years ago in what was then called Higo Province (now Oita prefecture). Visitors can still experience a piece of this history by visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, one of the oldest Shinto shrines dedicated to Kukai's spirit.
