Okinawa
1.5 million

Okinawa Prefecture is located in the southernmost part of Japan and consists of over 150 islands, with the largest being Okinawa Island. It is known for having an incredibly diverse culture and history, due to its long exchange with other countries. In addition, it has some of the most beautiful beaches in Japan - perfect for a summer holiday!

One popular tourist location to visit is Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium - one of the world's largest aquariums. Here you can see whale sharks, manta rays, sea turtles and many more marine species from all around the world! Another great spot to explore is Shuri Castle - a World Heritage Site that was once a royal palace during Okinawa's Ryukyu Kingdom era. It offers stunning views as well as interesting historical artifacts on display throughout its grounds.

Lastly, an interesting fact about Okinawa Prefecture is that it was home to one of Japan's few remaining matrilineal societies until recently. This means that property and names were passed down through female members instead of male ones!
