Butha-Buthe is the northernmost district of Lesotho, located in the far northeast corner of the country in the highlands. This mountainous area is known for its spectacular landscapes and dramatic rock formations. It has a mild climate year-round and offers rural beauty, traditional cultures, and lifestyle opportunities that are unique to this part of the world. Visitors come here to explore its many outdoor activities such as mountain biking trails, horseback riding across lush pastures, fishing spots nestled in hidden valleys, kayaking on peaceful rivers or hiking some of its more challenging peaks.

One must-see tourist site is Liphofung Cave which features an impressive collection of San Bushman paintings thought to be between 500-2 000 years old. Another popular spot is Thaba Bosiu Mountain which was King Moshoeshoe I's stronghold during times of war against attacking enemies dating back to 1824-1836.
