Visit Ntcheu


Ntcheu is a district and region of Malawi located in the central part of the country. Its capital city, Ntcheu, is situated at the confluence of the Bua River and Lilongwe River. The district has an area of 2,011 square kilometres and a population of 500,000. It has abundant natural beauty with rolling hills, forests and rivers.

One popular tourist spot in Ntcheu is Malingunde Nature Reserve where one can observe wildlife like elands antelope or bushbuck. It also provides visitors with breathtaking views from its lookout points over valleys or mountains far away. Another attraction for visiting tourists is Chezi Hill Inselberg which gives fantastic views over nearby towns and villages as well as sunsets over Lake Malombe in Mozambique.

The first inhabitants to settle in what later became Ntcheu were from Swaziland who moved here during the 17th century fleeing political turmoil across borders at that time. This migration resulted in profound cultural influence in terms of language, customs and traditions which still exists today among people living here today
