Visit Salima District


Salima District, located in the Central Region of Malawi, is a picturesque region with immense beauty. On one side lies the crystal clear waters of Lake Malawi and on the other lies rolling hills. The district has an impressive landscape full of nature reserves and breathtaking locations to explore.

Two notable tourist attractions are Kapichira Falls and Livingstonia Mission Church which attract hundreds of visitors each year. Kapichira Falls is a stunning three-tiered waterfall surrounded by lush vegetation and breathtaking scenery. The Livingstonia Mission Church is noted for its unique architecture that blends traditional African cultures with European influences, while also preserving its important historical roots as one of the oldest mission churches in Malawi.

The Salima District has many interesting historical facts although perhaps most famous is when it was used as a base by rebel forces during a civil war in 1964 known as 'The struggle for liberation'. This event was significant in gaining independence from British rule, ensuring Salima's place as an important part of Malawian history!
