Gagauzia is a small autonomous region of Moldova located in the south of the country. It is home to the Gagauz people and has its own unique culture and language. The main city, Comrat, is known for its charming cobblestone streets lined with colorful buildings, and there are several churches from different eras that are worth visiting here. Other attractions include Lake Kiikomerazh, a popular recreational spot located nearby with plenty of outdoor activities such as fishing and swimming available; or you can take a hike in one of the many nature reserves in the area. A fascinating historical fact about Gagauzia is that it was part of Romania until 1940 when it was annexed by Soviet Union; after Moldova declared independence in 1991, Gagauzia restored its autonomy within Moldova.
