Visit Nisporeni District


The Nisporeni District is located in the central part of the Republic of Moldova and is bordered by Orhei, Calarasi and Ialoveni districts. Its landscape consists mainly of rolling hills, plains and vineyards. It has a picturesque countryside which attracts many tourists each year.

Two popular touristy places to visit in this district are: Manastirea Radeni, an 18th century monastery located on a small hill surrounded by vineyards; and Lacul Varnita, a large man-made lake situated at the base of a mountain where visitors can go for swimming or enjoy watersports such as paddling and scuba diving.

Nisporeni district has an interesting history that dates back to the Middle Ages when it was first mentioned as part of Wallachia before being incorporated into Moldavia in 1492 during Stephen III's rule. The name 'Nisporeni' derives from 'niespora', meaning 'the place between two rivers'.
