Visit Ungheni District


Ungheni is a district located in the northern part of Moldova. It borders Romania, making it an important gateway to many international destinations. Despite being relatively small and sparsely populated, Ungheni offers a variety of attractions for tourists.

One of its main sights is Curchi Monastery, built in 1773 and known for its unique architecture and frescoes depicting the life of Saints Panteleimon and Teodora. Tourists can also visit Prut River Canyon - a stunning natural landmark that stretches over 8km with rocky cliffs reaching up to 30m high.

Ungheni also boasts rich historical heritage and culture: it was first mentioned as a town as early as 1499, during the rule of Stephen III of Moldavia. During this period, Ungheni was oneof the most important economic centers within the region; this legacy lives on today through local festivals held throughout the year honoring traditional art forms such as folk music, dance, craftsmanshipand painting.
