Discover Askvoll

 
Askvoll is a municipality in the county of Vestland, Norway. Located on the northern shore of the Askvollfjorden, it is part of Sogn og Fjordane. It encompasses both mainland and several islands and has a population of 2,700 people.

The area's natural beauty draws visitors year-round to take advantage of the abundance of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking and kayaking. The town itself is home to many historical landmarks like a wooden stave church dating back to the thirteenth century and one of Norway's oldest stone churches from around 1150 AD on an island in Askvollfjorden.

For those interested in Viking history, there are two reconstructed Viking longhouses located at Gulatinget Museum which was built by King Harald III around 900 AD for use by local chieftains. Other attractions include a large number of bird species with abundant wildlife, rock carvings from prehistoric times and scenic views from atop Mount Laksen or Furebergsfossen waterfall nearby.
