Visit Niuatoputapu Island

Niuatoputapu is an island in the country of Tonga located in the south Pacific Ocean. The island has sandy white beaches, azure waters, and lush green forests with a variety of flora and fauna. The capital village is named Hihifo which has a few restaurants, small shops and other local markets.

Visitors may enjoy activities like kayaking, snorkeling, swimming and fishing or exploring some of its tourist attractions such as Hina Cave with ancient drawings dating back to 600 AD or visit the Fafa Island Bird Sanctuary filled with sea birds.

The island was devastated by tropical cyclone Gita in 2018 which makes it even more interesting because during this time Niuatoputapu was also affected by a tsunami wave measuring around 3 meters high in 2009 due to a magnitude 8 earthquake near Samoa Islands destroying almost all homes on the coast.
