Hike, Park, Nature ~ 2 hours

Montezuma Castle National Monument, located in Camp Verde, United States, is a stunning historical site that offers a glimpse into the lives of the Sinagua people who inhabited the region over 600 years ago. This five-story, 20-room cliff dwelling, nestled into a limestone recess high above Beaver Creek, is one of the best-preserved prehistoric structures in North America.

Visitors can explore the self-guided, 13-mile loop trail that leads you past an incredible view of the ancient cliff dwelling, a serene pond, and through a beautiful sycamore grove. The monument also houses a museum showcasing artifacts and exhibits about the Sinagua culture. Don’t miss the opportunity to see the Castle A, a 45-50 room pueblo ruin which was a major focal point of the prehistoric community.

Plan your visit

Plan ahead when visiting Montezuma Castle National Monument! Start by booking a hotel in nearby Camp Verde. This will give you access to the monument and its surrounding attractions. Next, consider your timing for the visit - late spring and early fall tend to be less crowded, so try to plan your visit during these times if possible. Once there, bring snacks for energy; after all that exploring you’ll want something to refuel with. And of course don’t forget water - make sure you stay hydrated while on the trails! Finally, don’t forget your camera as this is one destination you won’t want to miss out on capturing!
