Park, Nature • $~ 3 hours

Crystal Cove State Park is a state park of Southern California, encompassing 3.2 miles of Pacific coastline, inland chaparral canyons, and the Crystal Cove Historic District of beach houses.

The inland portion of Crystal Cove State Park is a hidden gem of the Orange County region, from the wooded Moro Canyon, up to the spectacular coastal views of Moro Ridge. It is a perfect way for visitors to feel they are “away from it all,” despite being near one of the greatest population centers in the United States.

The backcountry portion consists of over 15 total miles of trails. Trails are open to hiking, biking, and equestrian use, with a variety of difficulties from quick and easy to long and strenuous.

The coastal portion features a 2.5 mile paved trail that runs along the bluff tops, perfect for easy walks and bike riding. This is also the only trail in our park in which leashed dogs are allowed.

Directions

The park is located off Pacific Coast Highway between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach, California with easy access from I-5, 405 and 73. Pacific Coast Highway, Route 1, passes directly by the Park. There is parking both on the ocean side of PCH at stop lights (Reef Point and Newport Coast), as well as inland parking at the stoplight, School/State Park, located next to El Morro Elementary School. A few miles north from Reef Point is the Los Trancos parking area with trolley access to the Historic District.

Plan your visit

Planning a visit to Crystal Cove State Park in Laguna Beach? Here are some tips to help you make the most of your trip: 1. Check the park’s website for up-to-date information on closures and access restrictions. 2. Look into getting an annual California State Parks Pass, which allows for free day use of all state parks in California. 3. Take advantage of the many outdoor activities available such as hiking, fishing, swimming and bird watching! Bring the necessary gear accordingly. 4. Arrive early in order to get a spot at one of the popular overlooks or beach areas; remember that space is limited! 5. Purchase food ahead of time as there are no restaurants or stores within the park boundaries - also consider packing snacks and bringing a reusable water bottle with you (refillable water stations can be found at three different locations).
6. Have fun and don’t forget to take lots of pictures - they’ll be great memories when looking back on your visit!
