The Basilique Saint-Sernin in Toulouse, France is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture. Built in the 11th century, this basilica is noted for its impressive bell tower, massive brick walls and incredible interior decorations. The interior features intricate carvings and sculptures depicting Biblical scenes as well as vibrant stained glass windows that bathe the church in radiant hues. Visitors to the basilica can also view one of the largest collections of Romanesque frescoes in Christendom. Highlights include a 12th century crucifix sculpted from wood and an ornate Baroque altar piece commissioned by Pope Urban VIII in 1635 AD.
