The Pont Neuf, or “New Bridge”, is a historic landmark in the city of Toulouse, France. Despite its name, it is actually the oldest bridge in the city, dating back to the 16th century. The bridge is a marvel of engineering, designed to withstand the powerful currents of the Garonne River. Its unique design features openings in the piers to allow water to flow through, reducing pressure on the structure.
While visiting Pont Neuf, one can enjoy a stunning view of the Toulouse skyline, particularly beautiful during sunset. The nearby Prairie des Filtres, a large public park on the banks of the Garonne, is a great spot for a picnic or leisurely walk. Another nearby attraction is the Hotel-Dieu Saint-Jacques, a historic hospital turned museum, offering a glimpse into the city’s past.
