Washington is the capital of the United States and home to national monuments, memorials, and government buildings. It is located between Virginia and Maryland along the Potomac River. The city boasts iconic landmarks like the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, White House and US Capitol Building. In addition to these political attractions there are plenty of cultural activities to experience such as shopping at Union Station or visiting one of the many museums like Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History or National Gallery of Art.

A few touristy places that should be visited are Georgetown--a historic neighborhood with cobblestone streets lined with restaurants and shops--and The Wharf on DC's Southwest Waterfront for outdoor concerts and waterfront dining. After exploring these areas visitors can also take a walk along Tidal Basin to witness over 3,000 Japanese Cherry Trees blossoming in Springtime around Thomas Jefferson Memorial every year which is an interesting historical fact about Washington D.C..
